Pain Leads To More Pain

In many cases, whatever caused the pain in the first place is only the beginning of the problem. Because pain affects your sleep and your ability to move around normally, it can snowball into a much larger set of problems, which all contribute to even more pain.

If you’re not sleeping well due to pain, your body is not getting the time it needs to heal and your immune system is not doing its best work. If you are in too much pain to get up and move around, you’re at increased risk for blood clots and pneumonia. If you’re adapting your movement to work around the pain, you may be placing other joints and muscles under undue stress, which can lead to additional pain and could create new injuries.
